Özet:The technological developments in recent years have transformed the world in a hurry, among the most significant are emphasized especially in fields such as: information technology and the media; but without doubt, the phenomenon that has most affected this accelerated change personifies in the way in which people are related, which is known by the name of social media. Social media from one moment to another has become a fundamental part of the world, quickly, and with it the social structure has been transformed in a radical way; virtual communities and the way in which society in general communicates has changed completely, so virtuality has taken a very important role in this new way of relating among people. The present investigation was carried out in the Patricia Pilar parish of the Buena Fe canton, with students of the first year of high school, with the purpose of analyzing the influence of social media in the areas: social, personal, family and academic of adolescents, especially in the appearance of self-destructive behaviors that limit the integral development of students A questionnaire of questions was designed for students, teachers and parents, the participants were 128 in total. The analysis shows that, at a general level, the majority of adolescents are affected positively and negatively by social networks in different areas; although they spend up to three hours and check at least five times
