Resumo:Nutritional status under normal conditions is the result of a balance between what is consumed and what is required, which can be affected by the mothers' lack of knowledge about complementary feeding. Objective: determine the relationship between the nutritional status and knowledge of mothers of children under 2 years of age about complementary feeding at the Vinchoa Health Center in the Guaranda canton, period June - September 2024. Methodology: This research was field-based, non-experimental, analytical, cross-sectional correlational with quantitative approach. Based on scientific theories, data collection through a survey validated by experts and the taking of anthropometric measurements. Results: 13.8% were at risk of underweight, 4.6% were underweight, 23.9% were at risk of low height, 15.6% and 6.4% were at risk of low height and severe low height, 18.3% were at risk of overweight, 10.1% were overweight and 5.5% were at risk of microcephaly. In general, mothers have adequate knowledge regarding the age of the child between 6 and 8 months. Conclusions: The relationship between nutritional status and the knowledge of mothers of children under 2 years of age about complementary feeding was determined: 11% of cases of low height risk and 3.7% of low height belonged to mothers with inadequate knowledge about the type of food according to the age of the child. Regarding inadequate knowledge of food consistency, 3.7% were at risk of stunting, 4.6% were stunted and 1.8% were severely stunted. Finally, 3.7% of cases were at risk of stunting and 2.8% were stunted due to inadequate knowledge about frequency of consumption. It is recommended to have a multidisciplinary approach in the corresponding health unit, to provide individualized nutritional care, early monitoring and to implement educational activities for mothers and caregivers about complementary feeding.
