Zusammenfassung:Currently, the demand for bandwidth by network users is increasing, due to the emergence of new services offered by operators, among which we highlight; virtual private networks, telephony over IP, videoconferencing, high definition television, video on demand, online games. Today, in the world we live in, we are completely surrounded by forms of communication: traffic lights, televisions, radio; Of all the transmission technologies used, one stands out above all: light through fiber optic cables. Today fiber optics is the only transmission medium capable of supporting transmission speeds in this way, playing an essential role in becoming the appropriate technological solution and giving way to the near future of telecommunications. This case study is under the research subline of the systems engineering career, "Networks and intelligent software and hardware technologies." The research methodology used in this study is the inductive method since it allowed to collect the information of such a place in the development of the present with the survey tool, within the framework of a comparison of the GPON and EPON technological networks. EPON is a native Ethernet solution that uses the Ethernet and GPON SONET/SDH protocols and the Generic Manufacturing Protocol for Ethernet transmission. Therefore, it is concluded that, comparing the two technologies, EPON is better than GPON and GPON works better.
