| Sumari: | This work was carried out in the province of Los Ríos (Ecuador) in the cantons: Babahoyo, Montalvo and Ventanas, with the objective of evaluating the sustainability of the cocoa production systems (Theobroma Cacao L.) NATIONAL AND CCN51. We worked with a population of 2,776 units of agricultural production (UPAs) of national cocoa and CCN51 with 1,590 (UPAs), from this population a random unrestricted sample was obtained with a confidence level of 90% of 93 for National, 91 for CCN51. For the proposed multicriteria analysis, a structured survey with 31 questions was used and three indicators and nine subindicators were identified to measure economic sustainability; five indicators, twelve subindicators for environmental dimension and five indicators with six subindicators for social dimension. The data were adjusted for transformation using a scale of 0 to 4 for each indicator, 0 being the least sustainable category and 4, the most sustainable. The results on the level of sustainability of the National and CCN51 cocoa production systems determined by analyzing the economic, ecological and sociocultural dimensions; showing differences. Regarding the General Sustainability analysis for the National cocoa production systems and CCN51, it was 2.28 and 2.29 respectively, which is why it is considered unsustainable. Since the methodology used all dimensions must reach a value greater than 2. National cocoa producers reached the threshold value of 3.1 only in the sociocultural dimension. In the economic and ecological dimension, causes of low sustainability were identified, such as low crop diversification, low productivity, few credit sources and cocoa rows orientation. In the case of CCN51 cocoa producers, they reached the threshold value of 2.0 and 3.2 in the economic and sociocultural dimension respectively. In the ecological dimension, causes of low sustainability were identified, such as low crop diversification, cocoa row orientation and temporal biodiversity |
