الملخص:At the national level, the reading index is minimal, people express not being interested in reading, hence the results of the student evaluations show significant complications in the area of Language and Literature, and even more so after the period of virtual classes and the return to face-to-face; reality that reflects the need to establish strategies to strengthen reading. Therefore, the objective of this research is to determine the way in which reading strategies promote the habit of reading in the students of the Juan E Verdesoto School. Thus, his study focuses on identifying the characteristic aspects of these strategies, diagnosing the elements present in the reading habit, and analyzing the relationship between the variables. Therefore, a mixed and descriptive investigation is developed, in addition to a non-experimental, causal and documentary design. Reason for which, it analyzes the theoretical contributions and the answers of the students after the application of the survey; which allows us to corroborate what really happens in educational institutions. Thus, the results show that recreational activities are not applied in Language and Literature classes, as a consequence, motivation is not generated, much less reading is encouraged and comprehension is improved; Furthermore, reading is not a parental habit. Therefore, it is concluded that the strategies that are currently applied do not strengthen the reading habit. It is essential to awaken the love of reading and its efficient practice.
