description The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between stress levels and academic performance of third year high school students at the Pueblo Nuevo Educational Unit. It was recognized that stress in third year high school students significantly influenced their academic performance, since the pressure and demands of studying hindered their ability to stay focused and committed to learning, highlighting the need for effective stress management strategies to optimize their academic success. The research was conducted with a population of 81 students between the ages of 16 and 18 years, a non-experimental mixed method research was adopted, with a correlational approach. Data were collected through the SISCO inventory of academic stress, where the results indicated that the students managed a moderate level of stress due to different factors during the educational cycle. This was due to the fact that they did not have a structured repertoire of coping strategies to manage the stress level in a structured manner. The results obtained from the statistical analysis of Pearson's coefficient through the JAMOVI program showed a significant negative correlation of -0.301** between the students' variables, indicating that students with high levels of stress would have a lower academic performance. The semi-structured interview conducted with the teachers provided additional information on how stress affects the academic performance of the students and the analysis of the grade register showed that the level of stress influenced the consistency and quality of the academic results.
