Resumo:The present work was carried out with the purpose of evaluating and determining the agronomic behavior of the janeiro grass (Eriochloa polystachya), with the application of nitrogen in the Babahoyo canton, therefore, grasses are very important in terrestrial ecosystems since they have existed they have always adapted in different fields serving as food for both man and animals. The morphological development of the pastures is very similar between different species with small variations mainly in the type of growth, some erect, semi-straight, crawling etc. The janeiro grass is the most planted in the lowlands of Ecuador for its adaptability and good forage production in dry season and in summer with irrigation application. This forage species constitutes 33.8% of native pastures in the cantons of Vinces and Baba, and is considered the best for milk production nationwide
