With the use of the synthetic and descriptive analytical method, the objectives were fulfilled, the research tools used were interviews and the survey of professionals working in the area of communication was used for data collection. The results indicate that communication professionals must have knowledge, skills and competencies for optimal job performance, and it is important that they are innovative and are constantly learning because in a HEI like the Technical University of Babahoyo respond to the demands and requirements, it is very important due to the constant evolution and demand of the institutions. |

The results indicate that communication professionals must have knowledge, skills and competencies for optimal job performance, and it is important that they are innovative and are constantly learning because in a HEI like the Technical University of Babahoyo respond to the demands and requirements, it is very important due to the constant evolution and demand of the institutions.El estudio de caso analizó cuales eran los perfiles profesionales del departamento de comunicación, de la Universidad Técnica de Babahoyo y su efectividad en la realización de actividades que se relacionan en el entorno institucional, para ello analizar el rol de comunicador e identificar cuáles son la competencias y habilidades, conocimientos, que deben conocer como profesionales de la comunicación para desempeñar a la hora de la practica en el departamento de comunicación. Con la utilización del método analítico sintético y descriptivo se cumplió con los objetivos, se emplearon como herramientas de investigación como entrevista y de recolección de datos la encuesta a profesionales que trabajan en el área de comunicación.
