Summary:This document details the agronomic management of cotton cultivation (Gossypium barbadense L.). The agronomic management of the crop must be precise, adequate and at the right time, in order to be successful in marketing, otherwise the crop may be lost or the quality of the fruits diminished, so it is very important to carry out cultural work and phytosanitary control in a very professional and specialized manner. The conclusions determine that there are no continuous investigations, in terms of seeds, soils, irrigation systems, agronomic behavior, in regard to cotton production; in Ecuador there are few cotton production areas, because the soils are not suitable for the development of the crop; the quality and performance of cotton fiber is not very competitive in the Ecuadorian market; there is a lack of implementation of new strategies for cotton production and cutting-edge technology that contributes with favorable changes so that cotton meets the standards required by the Ecuadorian textile industry; the importation of raw material has reduced job sources since finished products, especially from Asia, enter the country with an affordable economic value; To optimize cotton production, it is necessary to establish technical and organizational strategies that contribute to the change of the national productive matrix in relation to import substitution, in order to improve living conditions, reduce the outflow of foreign exchange and boost the economy of the country. country and one of the main drawbacks of Ecuadorian farmers is access to credit in financial institutions to invest in their crops, since there are no campaigns or products by these institutions for access to loans.
