Summary:Relationship between astigmatism and academic performance of students from 12 to 18 years of age in the Francisco Huerta Rendón Educational Unit in Babahoyo-Los Ríos October 2018 - April 2019 Introduction: The problems of visual health have been increasing every time, due to multiple factors such as the internet with their social networks, cellphones, video games, etc. One of those problems is an imperfection in the curvature of the cornea or the lens of the eye that is known as astigmatism. Objective: To determine the relationship between astigmatism and the academic performance of students from 12 to 18 years of age of the Francisco Huerta Rendón de Babahoyo - Los Ríos Educational Unit. Methodology: There search study is observational, analytical, prospective cross section and quantitative type. The sample consists of 269 students from 12 to 18 years of age from the Francisco Huerta Rendón Educational Unit in the city of Babahoyo, who me assured academic performance and refractive errors were determined through visual examination. An instrument was applied that consisted of a questionnaire of 10 objective questions. The variables were evaluated by frequency distribution tables applying the descriptive statistics and the Microsoft Excel 2010 computer program for the preparation of tables and graphs. Results: The incident cerate of astigmatism was around 40%, the level of academic performance of the 106 students with astigmatism of the Educational Unit was the average with 74.5%. The most frequent symptoms reported by students with astigmatism were blurred or distorted vision and headache with 68.9% and 16% respectively. Conclusions: There is no direct relationship of astigmatism with the level of academic performance of the students of the Francisco Huerta Rendon Educational Unit in the city of Babahoyo.
