Initial treatment of gastroenteritis in children under 5 years of age is rehydration. Next, the clinical case of an infant who is admitted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Hospital with a diagnosis of acute Gastroenteritis will be analyzed, in order to provide the appropriate interventions to be followed as nurses with the intention of obtaining his speedy recovery and avoiding future complications in its development. |

Su etiología principalmente es de origen viral, teniendo al rotavirus como agente principal productor de diarrea a nivel mundial, procedida de bacteria y parásitos. Los factores de riesgo que favorecen la severidad y susceptibilidad son: Hacinamiento, malnutrición y malas condiciones socioeconómicas. Los lactantes y niños menores de 5 años tienen mayor predisposición a la deshidratación. En el diagnóstico frente un lactante y/o niño con diarrea aguda es necesaria la valoración a nivel global y la anamnesis detallada con la finalidad de diferenciar la infección entérica de otras causas que provoquen diarrea y vómito. El tratamiento Inicial de la gastroenteritis en niños menores de 5 años es la rehidratación.
