Pneumonia is an inflammatory infection that affects the lungs, in which the pulmonary alveoli fill with fluid or pus causing a cough or phlegm and is often accompanied by chills and fever. Pneumonia can be caused by different microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses. Depending on the type of germ, it can vary from mild to severe depending on its clinical manifestations and pathogenesis that it can cause. It is very common in children and adults over 65 years of age because they are very prone to getting sick and acquiring any type of infection due to their immune system. This disease can also occur due to a history of viral or bacterial infections that are not treated in time. By means of a good clinical history, its degree of complexity can be identified, since laboratory tests help to identify and identify the type of germ that is associated with this pathology. Each year, more than 800,000 children under the age of five die of pneumonia, of which more than 153,000 are newborns, a group especially vulnerable to infection (Moran, 2020) In Ecuador this infection is one of the main causes of deaths as well Even worldwide, because they are not treated on time, that is why there are educational programs for the community in general to help prevent this disease and in turn serve as recommendations since age-dependent risk factors, lifestyle and how the immune system of people is. Symptoms can vary for different types and can range from minor to severe.
