Resumo:Dyscalculia is a disorder that is manifested by a weakening or loss of the ability to calculate, manipulate numerical symbols or perform simple arithmetic operations The child who suffers from some receptive hearing language disorder probably performs poorly in arithmetic, not because he fails to understand the principles of calculus, but because he fails to understand the teacher's oral explanation. The disturbances of quantitative thinking or dyscalculia include the understanding of the mathematical principles themselves. The child manages to read and write, but not calculate. In conclusion, dyscalculia is a deficit of oral, written and symbolic language that presents a deficit when calculating, difficulty in handling symbols, difficulty in reasoning logically and difficulty in developing arithmetic processes for problem solving. We will cover each of these topics to define them properly. Difficulty in Reasoning Logically.- We will first determine what these words mean, to establish the definition of this very important difficulty for the development of mathematics. Reasoning is "any operation by which a proposition is admitted whose truth is not directly known, by virtue of its link with other propositions already considered as true." Logic is the science that from a purely formal point of view, studies the structure and establishes the right procedure by which reason can avoid error and reach the truth,”(Francisco Olmedo 1984). Therefore we will say that to reason logically is to affirm a result by arguing it properly.
