| Summary: | The present investigation was carried out with the purpose of knowing the presence of Microfilariasis in dogs in the rural area of the Union Parish of the Babahoyo Canton, using the thick smear method for its diagnosis. 100 dogs were sampled in the sectors of Valdivia, Las Garzas, El Cuatro, and Petra. The variables used in the research were the age, breed, and sex of the sampled animals. The positive cases were evaluated using the non-parametric test for a single sample, the Chi Table test, where the following results were obtained; Of 100 animals sampled, 7 of them were positive for Microfilariasis, which represents a 7% presence. With respect to the variables studied, within the breed, all positive cases occurred in mixed breed dogs with 7%. According to age, those most affected by this disease were dogs between 1 and 4 years of age, followed by dogs between 6 and 10 months of age with 2 positive cases, and to a lesser extent with 1 positive case that was showed in dogs between 5 to 8 years of age. And in terms of sex, males presented the highest percentage of presence of the disease with 5% compared to females who presented only 2%. The non-parametric statistical evaluation of Chi Square carried out in the research showed that there is no statistical significance for any of the variables studied. |
