Resumo:In sorghum cultivation, it is necessary to highlight the importance that this grain has had and continues to have worldwide, considered the fifth most important cereal in the world, in terms of harvested surface area and production. The objective of this research was to determine the importance of seeds to improve the germination and development of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor, L.) cultivation. In preparing the document, information was collected from scientific articles and virtual libraries, considering it as a non-experimental bibliographical research, through the use of synthesis, analysis, and summary. The results indicate that sowing sorghum is a measure for seed germination, required at reduced humidity levels, and is used in open conditions to optimize germination and create an appropriate environment for growth. The study concluded that, for optimal germination of sorghum seeds, it is necessary to sow them between 2 and 5 cm deep. Seed quality is crucial since it requires little humidity for germination. Good chemical fallowing and soil decompaction are necessary for soil preparation. A well-prepared soil with good moisture content is essential for good germination and optimal growth and development. Incorrect seed placement can lead to disease susceptibility problems and compromise plant viability. In addition, lack of control in seed selection can lead to a loss of genetic integrity.
