The importance for the family doctor will be to keep the disease stable and provide a better quality of life, taking into account during the follow-up in these patients the appearance of symptoms that show advanced stages of the disease and the impact of the disease on daily life. Above all, the degree of family and social support available to the patient should be investigated. Therefore, the management of stable COPD is aimed at the prevention of the disease, relief of symptoms, prevention and treatment of complications and exacerbations. It must always be remembered that advanced age is a factor associated with mortality and the appearance of complications, which forces us to be aware of a possible hospitalization of the control patient. |

Siendo esta uno de los procesos patológicos pulmonares por limitación de flujo aéreo asociado a una respuesta inflamatoria anormal a partículas o gases nocivos, no difiere mucho de otros grupos etáreos. La importancia para el médico de familia será mantener la estabilidad de la enfermedad para mejorar la calidad de vida del paciente, tomando en cuenta durante el seguimiento la aparición de síntomas que muestren estadios avanzados de la enfermedad y el impacto en la vida cotidiana. Sobre todo, se debe indagar el grado de soporte familiar y social de que dispone el paciente. Por lo tanto, el manejo de la estabilidad de la EPOC está destinado a la prevención de la enfermedad, alivio de síntomas, prevención y tratamiento de las complicaciones y reagudizaciones.
