Izvleček:The written press is undoubtedly the basis of communication and one of the first to evolve with technological advances. Within the social field, it has developed in such a way that it became a fundamental necessity. In Ecuador there are more than 50 companies dedicated to the written press, at the national level there are four main newspapers, these being: El Universo, Extra, El Comercio, Expreso, each one marks an aspect that distinguishes them and is part of their identity. In this case, we will take as a reference the newspaper El Universo, which already has 99 years of service. Since its creation, it has presented variations in its format, ranging from having a single computer sheet to have several pages. Besides, with the passing of the years and the evolution of technology, it implemented photographs, color, and distinctive visual elements in its editions, something that significantly changed the way of communicating, and with this, the competition was reinforced. Since 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 virus, it stated a new remake of the medium. I implement a change to its traditional format, in this, it was noticed the change in size and the relocation of certain elements. According to the analyzes carried out, they were due to the influences of certain European journalistic currents. However, these changes caused some discontent in the traditional reader population, as the changes are often annoying until they adapt. To this, it is necessary to add the low consumption of the written press due to the problem of the Covid19 pandemic, plus the constant replacement of the digital press.
