description The present clinical case analyzes a 34-week-old neonate with pulmonary sepsis in the Neonatology area of the Alfredo Noboa Montenegro Hospital, in the city of Guaranda. This pathology occurs within the first 24 to 48 hours of life as a consequence of exposure to microorganisms from the maternal genitalia during childbirth. In Ecuador, studies suggest that the incidence is approximately 2.4%, this represents one of the 3 main causes of newborn mortality. Being a complex alteration, clinical care should be prioritized and strict monitoring of the evolution of the newborn should be carried out. The clinical manifestations are nonspecific and vary according to the degree that is present. Among the main ones are: dysthermia, dyspnea, jaundice, barely, abdominal distention, lethargy, hypoactivity, pallor, oliguria, cyanosis, marbled skin, seizures, splenomegaly, vomiting, diarrhea. The objective, therefore, is to determine the nursing care process in a 34-week-old newborn with pulmonary sepsis, in order to help correct the functional patterns that are affected, thus choosing the correct nursing interventions that provide the facility to reduce possible complications and ensure the prompt recovery of the newborn.
