| Samenvatting: | The present clinical case is of a female patient of 57 years of age, who goes to nutritional consultation for presenting colon cancer, is nutritionally intervened to assess in what nutritional conditions she is. Colon cancer is a pathology that prevails in greater quantity in western countries and in Ecuador, it is the second cause of death among all types of tumors nationwide. This disease develops due to the mucosa of the large intestine, contained in a polyp, which evolves by various factors until it forms in a malignant tumor. In Ecuador, 1,200 new cases of colon cancer are presented every year. The incidence rate has increased significantly in the last 15 years; in 2003, the incidence rate was less than 4 per 100,000 inhabitants, and in 2010 (the most recent figures) was more than 9. It is believed that the interactions between genetic and environmental factors, including diet, play a crucial role in its development, but the first changes in the normal colonic mucosa that could lead to early detection and prevention of the development of the disease have not yet been determined cancer. |
