Description
Summary:It is common to confuse irritability, headache, nervousness, insomnia and fatigue at the end of the workday with simple work stress. The truth is that these are some of the symptoms of work exhaustion, which in Spanish could be interpreted as being 'burned' or 'consumed by work'. For others, it is a disease in itself and a potential public health problem, since it has been observed and reported frequently in the hospital services of Western societies as a consequence of long periods of activity under stress in said environment, considering it from the beginning as a multi-dimensional event. In the city of Quevedo in the Hospital Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS), nurses in the emergency area complete long working hours of sometimes up to 12 hours. The objective of this research is to identify the presence of work exhaustion and its influence on family roles in the nursing staff of the emergency area of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) Hospital in Quevedo canton, province of Los Ríos, since there is a risk that the long hours of work that nurses have to perform in the emergency area of the aforementioned hospital will cause them to experience work exhaustion over time.
