| Summary: | Stress in the nursing workplace is a common phenomenon due to the high demands of the hospital environment, due to the role nurses have in caring for patients in critical circumstances, having to make precise and rapid decisions under high-pressure conditions. The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between the activation of the Silver Code and the stress perceived by the nursing staff at the Martín Icaza General Hospital. Emotional and behavioral responses of the staff are analyzed, as well as the strategies used to cope with stress. The methodology used was a mixed approach, with a non-experimental, field, descriptive and cross-sectional design. The instrument used to collect the information was a survey applied to 111 nursing professionals, using the Modified Coping Strategies Scale. The results showed that for 90% of the staff, when the Silver Code is activated, they consider a high level of risk, while 70% of the respondents use evasion strategies such as hiding their discomfort by minimizing the situation and 84% do not go to a professional in search of help for stress management. Therefore, it can affect the quality of the service provided and the mental health of professionals. It was concluded that the Silver Code significantly influences the emotional well-being of health personnel. The implementation of training programs in coping skills and psychological support is recommended to improve the response to crisis situations and reduce stress levels. |
