| Özet: | The present clinical case is based on a 62-year-old female patient. This patient was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus 12 years ago and arterial hypertension 5 months ago, Her blood pressure is 135 / 90mm / Hg, in which the current endocrinologist requested a dietary assessment for which she was referred to the nutritionist for her intervention. According to the nutritional evaluation that was carried out, the patient is normal according to the body mass index (BMI), on the other hand, biochemical tests and her high fasting glycemia, normal HDL, high LDL were also performed. It is important to take into account that diabetes can cause damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves, as well as increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. This damage can cause blood flow to decrease, which, added to damage to the nerves (neuropathy) in the feet, increases the risk of ulcers and infections in the feet and that sooner or later the limb will have to be amputated. Diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of blindness and the result of long-term and cumulative damage to the small vessels of the retina. The dietary treatment that the patient underwent according to her presenting pathology is the DASH (Dietary Approach Stop Hypertension) model, a dietary pattern that, according to studies carried out, is ranked as one of the main ones in helping with the treatment of hypertension and diabetes, the patient will begin to notice changes in her health. |
