Description
Summary:The present clinical case is based on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is defined as an inflammatory disease that obstructs air flow. Symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing, production of mucus (sputum), and wheezing. It is a frequent entity, whose incidence is increasing. Early diagnosis allows a decrease in comorbidities associated with this entity. Spirometry is a technique that allows the diagnosis and subsequent monitoring of these patients. We present the case of a 75-year-old male, smoker, who came to the emergency room due to symptoms of COPD exacerbation. The early diagnosis of this entity is essential to avoid its complications and to know the process and therapeutic treatment such as non-invasive mechanical ventilation to treat the patient. This case was investigated with the purpose of explaining the care provided in respiratory therapy as the techniques and care necessary to obtain a favorable evolution and efficacy in the adult patient with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
