Zusammenfassung:The main objective of this research is to determine the consequences of family abandonment in the emotional area of older adults in the Gerontological Center of Montalvo canton. A quantitative, descriptive and non-experimental methodology was used, with a cross-sectional design, to analyze the relationship between family abandonment and the emotional health of the participants. The study population consisted of older adults from the Gerontological Center of the Montalvo canton, from which a representative sample of 80 individuals was selected. Data were collected through questionnaires and psychological evaluation scales, such as the MOS social support questionnaire and the Yesavage geriatric depression scale, ensuring the validity and reliability of the results. The most relevant results indicate that family abandonment has a significant impact on the emotional health of older adults, evidenced by high levels of depression in those who feel abandoned by their families. In addition, it was found that a low perception of family support is strongly related to reduced emotional well-being. Likewise, this study highlights the importance of developing intervention strategies and public policies that address family neglect and promote the emotional well-being of older adults, contributing to improve their quality of life and providing a solid foundation for future research in the field of gerontology and mental health.
