Sažetak:SUMMARY The present work was carried out in the Parish Juan Montalvo, Cantón Mira, Province del Carchi, with the objective of determining the damages of paratrioza (Bactericera cockerelli Sulc.) In the cultivation of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The study is based on the collection of primary information obtained through semi-structured surveys applied to farmers dedicated to the cultivation of pepper, in order to know the damage caused by the paratrioza to the crop, the factors that cause the proliferation of the plague and know the control methods to handle the insect pest in the crop. From the analysis of the results obtained, it is established that the pepper crop in the area has been developing for four years, 30% of the farmers prefer to grow the Golazo and Favolor varieties, due to their easy adaptation to the conditions of the place; However, the presence of the paratrioza or jumping aphid in the crop a year ago has caused dwarfing of the plant, yellowing of the leaves, decrease in size and fruit fall, affecting the production and quality of the fruits, as well that has generated an increase in the production costs of the crop, which affects the economy of the producers. To control the effects of the insect pest insecticide chemical applications are made with a frequency from 4 to 15 days. In conclusion, the paratrioza is a disease that has caused severe damages and drastic decreases in the yield and quality of the pepper fruit in the area of Juan Montalvo.
