Zusammenfassung:Introduction: One of the greatest difficulties teachers face today is to get students to acquire communication skills and develop oral and written expression skills. Objective: To recognize the importance of communication skills in the teaching-learning process of the students of the third year of basic education of the educational unit “Caracol”, Caracol parish, Babahoyo canton, Los Ríos province. Methodology A qualitative methodology was considered through the use of student observation and teacher interviews, it was specified with 2 teachers and 47 students in the third year of basic. Results: The results of greater relevance indicate that teachers 100% are not correctly selected strategies, 50% do not always use group activities, this impairs the integration between peers and does not encourage the participation of students to be able to generate ideas and provide alternatives in class. Conclusion: Communication skills are essential to improve relationships in the different movements that the student develops, social institutions, in interpersonal relationships, with their peers, teachers, family and community, so it is important to promote strategies that promote skills inside the classroom
