description Chronic malnutrition is one of the biggest public health problems worldwide that currently affects children under two years of age with 16%. At the national level it reaches 23.1% and locally at the level of the province of Los Ríos it represents 4%. The consequences range from a low stature to serious problems in cognitive development, that is, not only in the physical aspect, since it harms their style and way of life within a stereotyped society. Despite not knowing the exact cause of low height and weight, it is possible to show that there are several factors that influence such as social, economic and political factors limiting poverty, inequality, illiteracy, lack of food and health care. . For this reason, nursing professionals, as members of the health team and in charge of promotion, must ensure the education of mothers and family groups on issues of nutrition and a varied and balanced diet according to their economic situation. Among the main consequences are poor academic performance, overweight, obesity, and non-communicable chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, which are very common in adulthood. However, these short and long consequences would be deadly if not detected in time. For example, vitamin A, zinc and iron help to strengthen the immune system since in these children it is highly compromised and exposed to infectious diseases due to the internal or external environment in which it lives. The present clinical case has as its methodology the reason for consultation and the personal and family history of the patient.

The present clinical case has as its methodology the reason for consultation and the personal and family history of the patient.
