description Preeclampsia is a complication that occurs during pregnancy, therefore it is of vital importance to make known the fundamental bases of nursing diagnoses always covering the basic needs of the patient and her family members. Arterial hypertension is considered a health problem worldwide due to its high prevalence and its impact on quality of life, this problem to pregnant women becomes a high probability of vulnerability being the characteristics of cause of maternal deaths in Ecuador in 18, 15%. The exact cause of preeclampsia is still unknown, however, several studies that have been conducted consider nutritional, endocrine and immunological factors as possible causes. Generally, preeclampsia affects the pregnant woman and the fetus, which is the cause of maternal deaths in the country. Preeclampsia should always be treated in a timely manner before the onset of symptoms such as: seizures, proteinuria, shortness of breath, pain in the upper abdomen, and other complications of the disease that can be fatal to the individual. The present clinical case study was performed on a pregnant patient of 36 weeks of gestation, who presented arterial hypertension of 145/100 mmhg, proteinuria in urine (+), edema in lower extremities and mild headaches. Once the nursing assessment was performed, nursing care planning was continued in order to improve the patient's health and stop complications.
