The cultivation of corn is based mainly on the pests and diseases that affect its production; Subsequently, several visits were made to the crops with which they were published to corn farmers, to then conduct surveys to 10 farmers, taking into account that it is the vast majority of them are engaged in this crop traditionally. Within the surveys, the following points are mainly evaluated, with respect to the cultivation of corn in the Eugenio Espejo zone: cultivation area, classification of seeds, planting varieties, type of planting, crop management and, above all, the main pests that coincide and its incidence in the traditional cultivation of corn, are also observed with details on the causes and problems that affect the producers of the area in the production of corn. Keywords: Identify pests, cornRESUMEN El presente trabajo de investigación en el cultivo tradicional del maíz, se desarrolló con el fin de identificar, caracterizar y evaluar las principales plagas que afectan al cultivo tradicional del maíz (Zea mays L.) Para lograrlo inicialmente se hizo una revisión bibliográfica sobre el cultivo del maíz basándome principalmente en las plagas y enfermedades que afectan su producción; posteriormente, se realizaron varias visitas a los cultivos con el fin de identificar inicialmente a los agricultores del maíz, para luego realizar encuestas a 10 agricultores, teniendo en cuenta que se trata de la gran mayoría se dedican a este cultivo tradicionalmente. Dentro de las encuestas se evaluaron principalmente los siguientes puntos, respecto al cultivo tradicional del maíz en la zona de Eugenio Espejo: superficie de cultivo, clasificación de semillas, variedades de siembra, tipo de siembra, manejo de cultivo y sobre todo las principales plagas que afectan y su incidencia en el cultivo del maíz suave, también se observaron con detalles las causas y problemas que enfrentan los productores de la zona en la producción del maíz.
