Summary:Introduction: Pneumonia is a disease that affects millions of inhabitants, especially children under 5 years old. It can be caused by different infectious agents, causing an inflammation of the lung parenchyma and characterized by a febrile process. The objective of this project is to determine environmental factors and their influence on the development of pneumonia, with the sole purpose of reducing the high rate in children under 5 years of age who enter the hospital unit beaches during the months of October 2018 to April 2019. Materials and methods: The present work is a retrospective cross-sectional, descriptive, observational study on the environmental factors that influence the development of pneumonia in children. The techniques used for the data collection were surveys, interviews, statistical data provided by the hospital. Results: Fifty cases of pneumonia were presented, according to the statistical data obtained, they reflect that the population with a higher percentage of the children surveyed are of the male gender with 76%, predominantly the ages of 4 and 5 years with 20% each one, in addition, most of the patients are residents of rural sectors with 70%, which favors environmental factors to the development of pneumonia. Conclusion: pneumonia is more frequent in children of 4 and 5 years of age who go to the Playas Hospital. The main environmental factors that influence the development of pneumonia are associated with the area of residence, overcrowding, lack of breastfeeding, the structure of the house and landfills among others.
