Premature rupture of membranes refers to the loss of continuity of the amniotic membranes. The problem lies in that obstetric risk factors are often not adequately treated according to the patient's needs, leading to an increase in these factors and therefore an increase in cases of premature r...

description Premature rupture of membranes refers to the loss of continuity of the amniotic membranes. The problem lies in that obstetric risk factors are often not adequately treated according to the patient's needs, leading to an increase in these factors and therefore an increase in cases of premature rupture of membranes. The following research work is aimed at all pregnant women diagnosed with PROM who have been attended to at Provincial Hospital Martín Icaza, from November 2023 to April 2024, with the objective of determining obstetric risk factors associated with premature rupture of membranes and thus implementing strategies to help prevent and reduce this pathology. The methodology used for the development of the research work is through the deductive method, and it is also descriptive and cross-sectional analytical. The study population corresponds to the total number of patients attended to in the obstetric emergency area at Provincial Hospital Martín Icaza, totaling 2305 patients. The sample considered consists of 289 patients who have been admitted to the institution with a diagnosis of premature rupture of membranes. The results obtained in the research show that out of 100% of patients studied, 28.6% (83) of pregnant women present genitourinary infections as the main obstetric risk factor in the research, 20% (58) of pregnant women have factors impacting the current gestation such as maternal age, gestational age, and socioeconomic status, 17.1% (49) have significant obstetric history, 14.3% (41) have maternal medical conditions, substance abuse during pregnancy with 11.4% (33), and 8.6% (25) of PROM cases with presence of fetal complications. In conclusion, the main obstetric risk factor associated with PROM is genitourinary infections.

In conclusion, the main obstetric risk factor associated with PROM is genitourinary infections.
