Crynodeb:SUMMARY The management and use of pesticides in bean cultivation is closely related to the degree of knowledge and responsibility of farmers when using them, this research was conducted in the San Juan de Urcuquí Commune, Imbabura Province, with the purpose of knowing which is the plague of higher incidence, the pesticides of common use and the dose used for its control. This study is based on the method of collecting secondary information existing in books, magazines and online resources, as primary information obtained through semi-structured interviews applied to twenty farmers engaged in the cultivation of beans. From the analysis of the results obtained, it was determined that the pest with the highest incidence in the bean crop is Anthracnose; however, there is difficulty for farmers to identify pests in the crop, which makes control difficult. With respect to the knowledge of pesticides that must be purchased for pest control, more than 50% of the producers interviewed state that they accept the technical criteria suggested by the vendor of the agricultural warehouse, because they do not know which product they must purchase; however, the application dose is based on the experience acquired over the years. Despite knowing the danger to health and the environment, 76% of farmers do not use adequate protective equipment, and some cases of poisoning due to the improper use of these substances. In conclusion in the San Juan de Urcuquí Commune, the use of pesticides for the control of pests in the bean crop is frequent, mainly products that belong to category III, moderately toxic (label color blue), however, despite know about the danger of using these agrochemicals do not take the necessary precautions.
