description The maternal role encompasses the behaviors that a woman adopts when assuming motherhood, influenced by the interaction with her environment and the experience of pregnancy and parenting. The Ramona Mercer Model establishes that this adoption depends on sociodemographic, social factors and the socioeconomic context. The objective of this research was to identify the factors that influence the adoption of the maternal role in primiparous pregnant women in the gynecology area of the Liborio Panchana Sotomayor Hospital during the period of June - September 2024. A non-experimental, quantitative and descriptive design was used. to analyze 23 primiparous pregnant women. The results revealed that the majority are young people between 18 and 23 years old (43.5%), in a common law union (52.2%), Ecuadorian (82.6%) and mestizo (39.1%). The majority have secondary education (69.6%) and work as merchants (43.5%). They live with their partner (73.9%) and receive an income similar to the basic salary (47.8%). 69.6% planned their pregnancy and 65.2% feel emotionally prepared to assume the role of mother. Furthermore, 91.3% are willing to adapt their lifestyle and all agree to receive guidance; 73.9% do not consider the economic factor as an impediment to their maternal role. It is concluded that demographic, socioeconomic, social and emotional factors significantly influence the adoption of the maternal role, with p values less than 0.05, which confirms the hypothesis that these factors have a relevant impact on the process of adopting the maternal role.
