Es una de las tres primeras causas de mortalidad materna en el mundo, en especial en países en vías de desarrollo. La hemorragia postparto se puede prevenir mediante el correcto manejo de la tercera etapa del parto (MATEP), que consiste en una serie de componentes: como lo es el uso uterotónico como por ejemplo la oxitocina, la correcta Tracción y contratracción del cordón umbilical y los masajes uterinos. Se presenta caso clínico de una paciente de 35 años de edad que es ingresada al área de emergencia del hospital Martin Icaza para realizar cesárea segmentaria, paciente presenta emergencia de hemorragia postparto, se activa clave roja y se actúa de acuerdo a los protocolos, posterior a esta complicación presenta una alteración en sus signos vitales desarrollando eclampsia y es referida a tercer nivel de atención hospitalaria.
