Worldwide, statistics reflect 0.4 women per 100 000 legal abortions in the first trimester of pregnancy, with 21% mortality, while it is very high in underdeveloped or developing countries, where it is usually illegal or economically inaccessible, 125 000-250 000 deaths per year according to the WHO, with 62% of deaths due to infections
