| Summary: | Astigmatism is a refractive error that occurs when the cornea does not show the same curvature in all its areas, and as a consequence both near and far objects are perceived in a blurred and distorted way. (CLINICA BAVIERA, 2020). The present clinical case is based on a 31-year-old male patient who attends an ophthalmological consultation at the “Natividad” Ophthalmology and Optometric Center, with a diagnosis of Pterygium grade II, in order to seek treatment for this pathology, we proceed to according to the surgical treatment, and subsequently a follow-up is carried out to determine a before and after the refractive state of said patient, since the objective of this case is to know how the Pterygium surgery influences the final refraction, after the observation of the anterior segment, and subjective and objective examinations in the optometric consultation, it is determined that the patient has a diagnosis of residual astigmatism by Pterygium surgery. After completing this study, it is concluded that despite the fact that Pterygium is a reason for consultation in primary eye health care, the optometrist can refer a specialist for proper surgical treatment, and also recommend the patient the appropriate intervention in grade II, since doing so reduces the risk of high residual astigmatism, in order to provide a better quality of life for the patient. |
