Description
Summary:Community-acquired pneumonia is one of the infectious diseases that completely affect lung parenchyma and is mostly acquired by 15-year-olds. Streptococcus pneumoniae occurs at any age; it is the most common out-of-hospital bacterial pneumonia and is the most common type of pneumonia leading to hospitalization. Given the mortality rate of up to 25% in sensitive individuals, polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccination is recommended for the elderly and very young individuals at risk. The initial symptoms of pneumococcal pneumonia are usually the sudden onset of high fever, pleuritic pain, and productive cough with sputum, which is sometimes streaked with blood.
