description Macronutrients are the nutritional elements of vital importance, which are required in greater proportions for all metabolic processes of the cotton crop, therefore, it is necessary to emphasize their effects and proper management and not to leave aside the micronutrients. Each nutrient has specific and transcendent functions for plant development, and if an adequate fertilization plan is not carried out, it could lead to a lack or excess of nutrients, which would cause considerable losses in crop productivity. Nitrogen provides vigorousness to the plant, its functioning increases the vegetative development of cotton in its first phonological stage, in turn, exponentially boosts production and reduces stress. Phosphorus is a fundamental element for cotton, its benefits range from optimum root development, increased production, and increased fruit set and ripening. Potassium promotes fiber maturation and shortens premature senescence. Magnesium is a vitally important element, it brings uniformity to the vegetative development of the crop and increases production. Sulfur promotes the formation of the structure of organic compounds, such as the amino acids cysteine, cystine and methionine, which are necessary to synthesize proteins. Calcium is a fundamental part of cell walls, is assimilated by the plant in the form of a divalent cation, and is classified as an element that is not very mobile. The information obtained was compiled, paraphrased and summarized by means of an analysis, with the sole purpose of enriching the reader's knowledge about macronutrients and their benefits in cotton cultivation in Ecuador. Therefore, it was determined that, in order to carry out an adequate fertilization, a soil analysis should be carried out beforehand, in order to execute an adequate management of the nutrients in the different stages of the crop.

Therefore, it was determined that, in order to carry out an adequate fertilization, a soil analysis should be carried out beforehand, in order to execute an adequate management of the nutrients in the different stages of the crop.
