Summary:This document deals with the importance of the use of the association grasses and legumes for grazing ruminants in Ecuador. The variety of grasses and legumes that are established in Ecuador make the diet of ruminants very varied and extensive, leading to the investigation of what would be the best combinations between grasses and legumes. The forages of Ecuador represent the main source of food for herbivores, especially for farm ruminants, each of the grasses have their nutritional values, which, when associated with legumes, both can boost their nutritional values, achieving better nutrition and development. to the animals. In Ecuador, the National Institute of Statistics and Census pointed out that the agricultural sector has occupied 5.2 million hectares, of which 39.7% is cultivated pasture, it is estimated that most of the planted pasture is concentrated in the mountains ( 65.6%), followed by the coastal region (28.15%) and the Amazon (6.3%), for the year 2019 the central bank of Ecuador reported that the agricultural sector contributed to the gross domestic product with 7.7 % and contributed with the highest percentage of employed people (29.4%). The conclusions determine that the association of grasses and legumes has improved the feeding of ruminants, providing a balanced diet, improving their development. Carrying out productive farms that include grasses and legumes guarantees, in a certain way, meeting the requirements of the animals that are fed with these combinations.
