Description
Summary:Acute bronchiolitis (AB) is considered one of the most common infections of viral origin, with children under 2 years of age as the vulnerable group. This condition, classified as acute infectious and affecting the lower respiratory tract in children under 2 years of age, is characterized by the presence of necrosis and inflammation of the bronchial epithelium that affects the lungs bilaterally and diffusely, leading to obstructive ventilatory incapacity. This research study sought to relate the risk factors that influence the development of acute bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age at the IESS Babahoyo General Hospital, from October 2024 to March 2025, in which a survey was conducted among the parents of children under 2 years of age about what symptoms the children presented and several questions that seek to identify what were the risk factors to which the children were exposed before presenting the symptoms of acute bronchiolitis. Within the survey and data collection it was found that most children were exposed to respiratory viruses, of which the most common and reported as incident risk factors were respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus and adenovirus. In this study, a sample of 51 children suffering from acute bronchiolitis was taken between the age range of 0 to 2 years. It is important to note that a formula was not developed for this study. The type of research used was basic, field and cross-sectional, for which an induction, explanation and training was carried out on what acute bronchiolitis was, the signs and symptoms that occur when the infection occurs, important characteristics of acute bronchiolitis were also explained, such as etiology, causes, modifiable and non-modifiable factors, improvement strategies for acute bronchiolitis, among other very important data that can occur before, during and after the clinical picture presented by children under 2 years of age with acute bronchiolitis.
