| Gaia: | SUMMARY The present experimental work was carried out in the Experimental Farm "Palmar", belonging to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Babahoyo Technical University, CEDEGE Project, located at Km. 10.5 of the Babahoyo-Montalvo road. The objective was to establish the incidence of R. albinella and D. saccharalis in eight advanced F4 lines, derived from interspecific crosses between Oryza sativa L. ssp japonica and Oryza rufipogon G., in Canton Babahoyo. Seven rice F4 segregating populations were used as seed material, resulting from the hybridization between four japonic cultivars and one wild genotype (Puyón). Seven segregating F4 populations and a commercial variety were considered as treatments. A completely randomized experimental design with 8 treatments was used to establish differences between treatments, and the Tukey test was used at 5% significance. For an optimal development of the crop, cultural tasks were established, among which are fertilization, irrigation, weed control, and disease control. The variables vegetative vigor, vegetative cycle, plant height, grains per panicles, percentage of sterility, length of panicles, percentage of vain grains in affected tillers, population and insect damage were evaluated. The results that were obtained determined that the F4 segregating lines under study were presented as very vigorous plants, highlighting the PUYÓN / JP003 P11-10 line for obtaining the highest average with 1.82, while the PUYÓN / JP002 P8-28 line obtained the highest number of grains per panicle with 197 grains. The line PUYÓN / JP002 P8-31 showed an outstanding value in what refers to the variable sterility with 8.14%, and also in vain grains of affected panicles, registering the lowest percentage with 10.17%. In the variable percentage of affected tillers, the lines PUYÓN / JP002 P8-31 (7%, 7%, 7%, 10%, 13% and 11% respectively) and PUYÓN / JP002 P8-20 (8%, 8%, 8%, 11%, 13% and 12%) obtained the lowest percentages of damages from the first week of evaluation until the sixth week. The lowest incidence of Rupela albinella and Diatraea saccharalis was obtained by the PUYÓN / JP002 P8-31 line during all weeks of evaluation. The variable length of panicles did not show significant statistical differences. The lines with the highest incidence of Diatraea saccaralis were PUYÓN / JP002 (0.17 larvae) and FL011 (Control) (0.18 larvae) and both also had a high susceptibility to attack by Rupela albinella (0.17 and 0.19 larvae respectively). Greater aggressiveness presented the species Rupela albinella with respect to Diatraea saccharalis, when obtaining higher average values, during each week in the segregants evaluated. The FL011 treatment (Control) was the most affected by the spices Diatraea saccharalis and Rupela albinella. The following recommendation was made to consider the lines PUYÓN/ JP002 PUYÓN/JP002 P8-28, PUYÓN/JP002 P8-31, and PUYÓN/JP002 P8-20 to continue the process of selection of new segregants, due to the outstanding values in several agronomic characteristics. In addition, evaluate the outstanding lines on the incidence of diseases of economic interest in rice cultivation and continue developing similar research selecting the highlighted lines, for the search of new F5 segregates that have important agronomic characteristics.
