In this sense, the present investigation focuses on studying and analyzing all the possible biopsychosocial factors that can affect the health behaviors carried out by the patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the follow-up of medical prescriptions. General objective: To establish the relationship between biopsychosocial factors and adherence to pharmacological treatment in elderly patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at the IESS Hospital in Babahoyo in the period from October 2018 to April 2019. Methodology: This is a historical-logical, descriptive and transversal research, the research method is inductive-deductive, the modality will be qualitative-quantitative. Results: The present investigation consisted of a sample of 84 older adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. There was a slightly higher percentage of men (60.70%) than women (39.30%). Conclusions: With regard to the therapeutic adherence prescribed by the physician, it was found that 69 patients (82.14%) reported not systematically fulfilling the usual pharmacological treatment for various reasons. According to the level of acceptance that these patients have regarding the disease they suffer, it was shown that a large percentage (29.08%) of these still do not fully accept suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus. |

En este sentido la presente investigación se centra en estudiar y analizar todos los posibles factores biopsicosociales que pueden incidir en las conductas de salud que lleva a cabo el paciente de diabetes mellitus tipo 2, y el seguimiento a las prescripciones médicas. Objetivo general: Establecer la relación existente entre los factores biopsicosociales y la adherencia al tratamiento farmacológico en pacientes adultos mayores que padecen diabetes mellitus tipo 2 atendidos en el Hospital IESS de Babahoyo en el período comprendido desde octubre 2018 a abril de 2019. Metodología: Se trata de una investigación de tipo histórica-lógico, descriptivo y transversal, el método de investigación es inductivo-deductivo, la modalidad será de enfoque cuali-cuantitativa. Resultados: La presente investigación estuvo conformada por una muestra de 84 adultos mayores con diagnóstico de diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Existiendo un ligero porcentaje mayor de hombres (60,70%) respecto a las mujeres (39,30%) Conclusiones: Con respecto a la adherencia terapéutica prescrita por el médico se logró constatar que 69 pacientes (82.14%) refirieron no cumplir de forma sistemática con el tratamiento farmacológico habitual por diversas causas.
