Sumari:In Ecuador, rice is the basic element for most Ecuadorians, it represents 6.6% of importance in relation to total food expenditure. It is one of the representative crops for the income of the farmers; Furthermore, its production constitutes a source of employment for many families in the areas of influence of this crop. Indicators are used to estimate agricultural sustainability, which are variables to summarize and simplify information of a complex nature in a useful way. In this research, the use of indicators of environmental sustainability for rice cultivation (Oryza sativa L.) is detailed, reaching the conclusion that CEDEGE producers and other small rice growers have problems in terms of plant cover management, diversification of crops and problems with pests and diseases. According to the research carried out, rice production is the most important activity in this sector, but it is not the only one, but rather it is complemented with agricultural production mainly for self-consumption. After having carried out the research on rice production in the Babahoyo canton, it can be said that rice production is largely generated by small producers
