Summary:This research project entitled “Social networks and digital platforms of municipalities in the promotion of local tourism in Ecuador” analyzes how the GADS of Babahoyo, Ventanas and Puebloviejo implement digital platforms and social networks to promote local tourism in these cantons. The research arises from the problem of low tourism impact that exists due to the deficiency of effective strategies in digital media. The methodology used is a qualitative-quantitative approach, where strategies, types of content, reach and interaction of publications on social networks are evaluated. The results identified which are the best practices and also the areas for improvement in order to enhance the visibility and attractiveness of local destinations. Social networks represent an essential tool in tourism promotion because they allow for rapid, interactive and broad dissemination. The study is relevant because tourism is considered key to the Ecuadorian economy and also because it seeks to be replicable models in other locations.
