Summary:Acute malnutrition is the result of the inability to gain weight in an individual or in turn by a recent loss of it, as a consequence this results in insufficient weight for height or extreme thinness. It is common to relate this state of malnutrition to recent states of famine and also to the appearance of infectious diseases The objective of this clinical case was to improve the nutritional status of the male patient of 2 years 3 months of age with acute malnutrition through the development of the nutritional care process that includes four fundamental steps that are the assessment of nutritional status through anthropometric methods, biochemical, clinical and dietary, nutritional diagnosis was also carried out through the PES, intervention and nutritional monitoring. To achieve the general objective, a hypercaloric diet of 1100kcal/day of hyperprotein, normoglycidic and normofat type fractionated in 6 meal times was prescribed, with this in one month the result was obtained the increase from 11.1 kg to 12.4 kg modifying the initial standard deviations to normal ranges. In the present clinical case, the objective was met, with favorable results for the patient who initially had a diagnosis of malnutrition and within a month became in a normal nutritional state that does not reflect malnutrition.
