Izvleček:Introduction: The process is an inflammatory, degenerative process, whose distinctive feature is the focal alteration of the limbus, and causes an abnormal growth in the cornea. Its appearance is directly related to exposure to ultraviolet radiation, inflammation and other irritating factors. Objective: To determine the relationship of the appearance of the material with environmental and chemical factors in people aged 25 to 50, Salampe Urdaneta Los Ríos Sector, May - September 2019 period. Methodology: A quantitative methodology was analyzed, its study is analytical, cross-sectional observational, with a diagnostic criterion of the pterygium. The research was carried out with real data of the inhabitants of the Salampe Sector, there was a presence of pterygium, the research is descriptive, because its objective was to determine the environmental and chemical risk factors associated with this pathology. Results: A prevalence of pterygium of 58% was found, it was found to be more frequent in males with 52% in grade I in people aged 30 to 40 years, followed by 20% in people aged 40 to 50 years. The risk factors that most include the appearance of the material were the exposure to chemicals and ultraviolet radiation. Conclusions: The document is considered the pathology with the highest prevalence in patients treated in ophthalmology. A greater number of significant risk factors increases the development of pterygium, the risk factors with statistical significance are similar to previous studies, it is important that people maintain a preventive behavior of protective measures and avoid excessive contact with chemical factors and Predisposing environments.
