Sumari:The feeling of shortness of breath, what doctors call dyspnea, is the unpleasant sensation of having difficulty breathing. People experience and describe the lack of air differently depending on the cause. During exercise or at high altitude it is normal for an increase in the frequency and depth of breaths to occur, but such an increase is rarely bothersome. The respiratory rate also increases during rest as a result of many disorders, whether of the lungs or other parts of the body. For example, when people have a fever they breathe faster. Accelerated breathing in a person with dyspnea is usually accompanied by a choking sensation. The person has the feeling of being unable to breathe quickly or deeply enough. You may notice that you need more effort to expand the chest when breathing or to expel the air when exhaling. You may also have finish exahaling (exhalation), or you may have various sensations often described as chest tightness.
