Sammanfattning:Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease that the characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. Failure to diagnose or control it in time can cause serious complications such as the diabetic foot that can reach the amputation of the affected limb. Objective: To determine the impact of nursing strategies on care and self- care for the preventions of complications in patients with diabetic foot treated in the diabetic foot unit of the IESS General Hospital of Babahoyo in the period May- September 2019. Methodology: Applied research, qualitative-quantitative, field, descriptive, transversal. Techniques such as the survey, direct observation, instruments such as a questionnaire and an observation guide were used. The population was100 patients with diabetic foot and the sample 67 of them. Results: Just over half of the sample (55 %) had not received information about the care they owe on their feet. The highest percentage (35%) does not apply moisturizers on the feet ever. The vast majority cut their nails in a wrong way (72 %). The health staff of the diabetic foot unit provides little information about foot care at home and no self- care teaching material is delivered to patients. Conclusions: ignorance, lack of information and non-delivery of illustrative material about self-care practices become risk factors for developing possible complications in patients with diabetic foot.
