Description
Summary:Pulmonary tuberculosis continues to be a public health problem in vulnerable communities such as the Victoria 1 sector of the Yaguachi canton, where socioeconomic and educational factors favor its spread. This study sought to determine the relationship between nursing interventions and the prevention of tuberculosis in the community, evaluating the level of knowledge, risk factors, and self-care of the inhabitants. The methodology employed was descriptive and field-based, using surveys and observation of 139 at-risk inhabitants. The results showed a general knowledge of the disease, but with gaps in specific aspects such as transmission and treatment. Most were unaware of the free treatment, the importance of vaccination and the most effective preventive measures. In addition, low implementation of self-care strategies and insufficient home visits by nurses for disease prevention were identified. It is concluded that nursing interventions in the community are limited and require strengthening in health education, promotion of self-care and community prevention strategies. It is recommended that training programs, home visits and information campaigns be implemented to improve awareness of tuberculosis and its prevention, thus helping to reduce its impact on vulnerable populations.
