Desde esta óptica es pertinente citar a quienes hacen de la comunicación una ciencia. Ellos, nos abren el abanico de visiones puesto que por momentos podemos quedar sólo con el instrumentalismo generado por los medios. Con justa razón, (Mattelart, A Y Mattelart, M. , 2003), expresa que los medios marcan la pauta en los ciudadanos y ciudadanas sobre cómo tienen que ser y cómo deben actuar otorgando características en el receptor sobre determinada situación. Por consiguiente, las funciones de los medios periodísticos se centran en las funciones sociales y sicológicas dadas en los capítulos I y II para desde esta dimensión otorgar poder el cual puede ser usado para intereses particulares.
